Notable Scholarships for UG and PG Science Students Sponsored by State Govt. of West Bengal and Central Govt. of India

A scholarship that not only aids deserving and financially challenged students in completing their studies but also motivates them to pursue their desired careers they had in mind. Both the central government of India and the state government of West Bengal offer a large number of scholarships. (1) DST-Inspire SHE-Scholarship: The full name of this scholarship is Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research and it is funded by Department of Science and Technology(DST), Under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The amount of the scholarship is 80,000 rs per year and it is given to the students pursuing regular bachelors or master's degree in natural science only. Students who scored in the top 1% on their high school exams administered by any state or central educational board, or achieved JEE rankings in the top 10,000, or passed the NTSE or JBNSTS exam are eligible to apply for this scholarship. It is required to maintain grades of at least 60% or a CGPA of at least 7.0 on a 10 grade scale in the qualifying exam. (2) JBNSTS Scholarship: The full name of this scholarship is Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search and it is funded by Govt. of West Bengal and several private organizations. Students pursuing regular bachelor's degree in any field—basic science, engineering, or medicine—can apply for this scholarship, unlike the DST-Inspire scholarshipThe scholarship is worth the same as DST-Inspire i.e. 80,000 rupees per year for students of basic science alone; however, it is worth 4,000 rupees per month for students of MBBS and BE/BTech. A book grant of rs 5000 is provided to the selected students each year. The selection criteria involves three tests, written, interview and scientific creativity test and the students are required to qualify all the tests. (3) SVMCM Scholarship: The full name of this scholarship is Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship, funded by Govt. of West Bengal. This scholarship is given to the meritorious students belonging to the economically poor family residing in the state of West Bengal. For undergraduate and graduate students, the scholarship rate is 1500 rs and 2500 rs, respectively, per month. A minimum score of 60% marks for UG and 53% marks for PG is required in the last qualifying exam to get selected for the scholarship. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, student's total annual household income should not exceed Rs. 2,50,000. (4) PM-USP Scholarship: The full name of this scholarship is Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana, funded by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India under the scheme " Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (PM-USP CSSS). Scholarship rates for undergraduate and graduate students are 12000 and 20000 rs annually, respectively. The students who are seeking for the scholarship should not have a gross family income of more than 4.5 lacs annually. The scholarship is open to students who are enrolled in regular degree programmes and above 80 percentile of those who passed the Higher Secondary Board exam in the relevant stream. In addition to these well-known scholarships, a variety of many other scholarships in state Govt. of WB and Central Govt. of India are available to students of backward classes(SC/ST/OBC), students of minority populations,  girls, wards of law enforcement and military personnel and students with disabilities.

Govt. of West Bengal:

(2) Aikyashree Scholarship(West Bengal Minorities' Development and Financial Corporation): The scholarship is available only for minority students. (3)OASIS( Post Matric Scholarship to SC, ST, OBC Students): The scholarship rate for SC and ST students is 300 rs for day scholars and 750 rs for hostellers respectively, per month.
